‘Dehumanizing, counterproductive, unlawful’ – Canada’s correctional system resists all attempts at reform

… despite many calls for reform [the correctional system] remains steeped in an archaic cultural mindset, focusing on punishing prisoners instead of preparing them for a safer and healthier future. The resulting living conditions, long denounced by experts as dehumanizing, counterproductive and unlawful, are still allowed to continue.

About to graduate, education students question fairness of new mandatory math test

Education students across the province are campaigning against the math test for new teachers introduced by the Conservative government even while they cram to prepare for it… The test will assess both their knowledge of the math curriculum from Grades 3 to 11 and pedagogy, or the best way to teach the subject… based on “core understandings, otherwise known as big ideas, surrounding important content dimensions in mathematics.”

“Revolutionary” new funding to shake up Ontario’s colleges and universities

Performance funding is popular in the United States, where about 29 states used it last year… The primary motivation was to increase graduation rates, the report said. “Colleges would readily accept state funding based on ‘seats in the classroom,’ but faced no consequences if students failed or withdrew from the class or dropped out completely.” … while research is mixed, performance funding generally has not improved graduation rates… performance funding can also have unintended consequences.
