Opposition parties willing to help Liberals delay MAID expansion

In considering a pause, MacGregor told the Star, the NDP would want to ensure that the Liberals take time to put in place “better treatment, supports, and poverty reduction efforts.” A response to concerns that some Canadians are seeking MAID because they can’t access proper medical treatments to alleviate their suffering, or access social programs or live adequately on their disability benefits.

Insiders say Justin Trudeau ready to freeze out Quebec and other provinces in federal health-care deals

… if Ottawa needs to sign deals with only some provinces and leave others… it’s a move the federal government is prepared to make… Government sources suggest there will be money — but with “light” conditions. Ottawa won’t allow federal cash to offset provincial money, they say. If the provinces choose to reduce their level of health-care funding, the federal government wants to reduce its transfers by the same amount.

Sadness rules the day as Ottawa protest comes to an end

It was heartbreaking to see so many, ill-informed and hurting, fight for a cause they believe they are defending… Perhaps it was because they were repeatedly lied to… threats of violence… hate on display… so little consideration for the residents of downtown Ottawa… It was sad the residents of Ottawa felt the police couldn’t be trusted to enforce the law… It was sad that Ontario stood on the sidelines of the crisis for so long…

Human rights minister a good first step:

The House of Commons’ foreign affairs subcommittee on human rights said in its latest report that Canada’s human rights obligations are spread across at least three departments making it difficult to measure any progress or hold anybody responsible… The[y]… urge the government to designate ministerial responsibility for the domestic implementation of Canada’s human rights obligation; for the monitoring of Canada’s human rights record and reporting those finding to appropriate UN bodies; and that the minister be given the necessary tools and resources to carry out the mandate.
