How much progress have women made in the workplace? 46 facts to mark 46 years of International Women’s Day

Women are more likely to be cashiers, but less likely to be CEOs than guys named Mark. We’ve come so far — but still have a long way to go.

It’s been 46 years since the UN declared March 8 International Women’s Day, and not since wartime’s Rosie the Riveter has the economy relied on women so much to get ’er done.

We know women’s work is never done. Here are 46 facts about how women’s work is — and isn’t — valued in 2023. (Unless noted, these are the most recent data available.)

  1. Proportion of people in the top one per cent (total incomes over $253,900) who are women: 1 in 4
