Ontario’s educational assistants deserve proper pay and support

EAs… are already terribly underpaid for the crucial support they provide… Imposing pay cuts against inflation isn’t just an insult to them; it’s an insult to every parent and person in the province. It’s a clear message from the government that it places a higher value on the rich people benefiting from tax cuts than it does on investing in a safe and stable learning environment for educational workers and kids.

Scheer’s election slogan undermines the Canadian way

Andrew Scheer… (is) following the lead of “populist” politicians like Donald Trump and Doug Ford, who dismantle public services and abandon social responsibility by preaching “me” instead of “we.” Scheer could have chosen the slogan “Time for us to get ahead.” But he didn’t.

Workers bear burden of provincial ‘restraint’

McGuinty says cuts in real wages will protect services, save jobs and pay down the deficit. Sounds good — too bad it’s not true. The fact is, none of the money workers lose will go to any of these things. All of it is going somewhere else. When fully phased in, the savings from the wage freeze could reach $1.8 billion a year. Where is it really going? It’s going to fund the premier’s $2.4 billion-a-year cut to the corporate income tax rate.
