I wonder if Canadians have been simply beaten down and worn out by the Harper government. Oppressed maybe?
Canadians have become dangerously cynical of our politicians. This is not new and it was well explained in Jim Travers’ excellent reprint last week. Unfortunately, the Harper government has manipulated this attitude to its full benefit. I guess you can’t blame him for this. Harper knows we don’t care and has taken full advantage of it. His remark that “you win some, you lose some” reflects a deep level of apathy and ignorance toward responsible governance. He and his ministers simply don’t care.
Facts and validation are no longer necessary in government decision-making. Consultation is prohibited. Truth and honesty no longer serve any purpose. Ministers are no longer called upon to be accountable. They don’t follow the rules of government but rather follow the dictates of the Conservative party. Information is not to be shared but rather censored and withheld.
All Canadians are aware of the constant list of improprieties performed daily by our federal government, but no one cares. Why?
Wouldn’t it be nice if those who did care actually stood up? Wouldn’t it be great if our military veterans demanded the respect they deserved? Wouldn’t it be great if parents actually admitted that $100 a month for daycare doesn’t even cover diaper costs? Wouldn’t it be great if all those who have had their rights violated by their own government took a brave stand?
It would be good, but it doesn’t look like it will ever happen. You win, Mr. Harper.
