The head of Ontario’s Métis Nation wants a mobile health clinic that delivers services to remote communities, school textbooks that chronicle contributions of the Métis – and an end to discrimination.

“This will help us get there,” Tony Belcourt, president of the Métis Nation of Ontario, said of talks designed to lead to a historic agreement with the government.

Attorney General Chris Bentley will today announce $14.1 million in one-time funding to “fast-track” changes to Ontario’s human rights system.

The cash infusion is designed to expedite reforms 16 months after the Liberal government enacted controversial legislation to streamline the processing of rights complaints.

My choice of multiculturalism as Canada’s biggest mistake has brought me quite a lot of feedback. Few so far have disagreed with my conclusion — that is to say, I am sure many readers did disagree, but there were few amongst those who took the trouble to respond personally or on this blog.

Spare a thought for Jason Kenney, the energizer bunny of the federal cabinet.

The 39-year-old secretary of state for multiculturalism spends every weekend hustling from one ethnic event to the next, dispensing grants and goodwill in a one-man campaign to peel various minorities away from the Liberal party.

He is personable. He is tireless. And he is armed with precise data about the concerns and political preferences of each ethnocultural community.
