As Prime Minister Stephen Harper reported in Saint John, N.B., yesterday, about 90 per cent of the federal government’s recession-fighting measures are already in the works, “stimulating our economy and creating jobs from coast to coast to coast.”
But Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff sees a different picture: only 12 per cent of the federal infrastructure projects are underway. He wondered in Parliament yesterday how Canadians can believe the Prime Minister.

The economy is supposed to be recovering. But millions of Canadians don’t see any improvement. Their incomes aren’t growing. Their jobs – if they’re working – are still precarious. Their lives are no better.
They don’t know who is breathing easier – definitely not them.
This isn’t the first time the statistical version of reality has been sharply at odds with people’s experience.
