Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

TheStar.com – Opinion – Get the fees out of high schools
June 16, 2009.   Jonathan Scott, Director of policy for the Ontario Student Trustees’ Association

It’s the hidden costs that kill. We work so hard to find the deal, finding the best and the cheapest cellphone, only to learn about the system-access fee. We invest in education, making it the best and the cheapest, only to learn about student-activity fees.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

TheStar.com – Opinion/Editorial – Full-day learning deserves support
June 16, 2009

For Ontario to have the prosperous future we all want, we need all our children to have the best possible start in life. Yet, more than one quarter of our children arrive in Grade 1 significantly behind their peers, and evidence shows they never catch up.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

TheGlobeandMail.com – Opinions – All-day kindergarten is not the magic bullet: The benefits of early childhood education are less than advocates claim
Jun. 15, 2009.   Margaret Wente

Who could possibly argue against more kindergarten for our kids? Not me. You might as well denounce apple sauce and motherhood. Kindergarten is a lot of fun, not to mention a safe, convenient place for mom and dad to stash the kids while they go to work.

But is all-day kindergarten the panacea for all our social ills?
