Re:It will take a nation to lift a generation out of poverty, Ideas, July 16

We were pleased to see this piece from Campaign 2000. They do excellent work in bringing the plight of the poor in the GTA to the consciousness of our communities.

As volunteers, we deal daily with the hardships and struggles of which they speak. As they so clearly point out, poverty is far more prevalent among women, First Nations people and recent immigrants.

We as individuals and as a community are diminished when we allow conditions to persist that maintain a sizable proportion of the children and adults in our communities in poverty in the midst of such abundance. We need to give more of ourselves. We need to demand more of our governments.
