Re:Better dental care promised for kids next year, Nov. 19

It is not very often that the word “prevention” is associated with government programs. I applaud the initiative being taken by the Children in Need of Treatment Dental Program regarding preventative action. The need for treatment is significantly reduced by addressing problems before they develop. Treatment can result in stigmatization, large financial burdens and, depending on the severity of the problem, psychological damage. I am pleased to see that the Ontario Dental Association recognizes the need for prevention and is making an effort to see that the government responds. I hope that the plea for preventative care is answered by the government.
